PSB 5500 Engineered for Maximum Security
The only barrier system in the world
endorsed by the U.S. Navy
The Port Security Barrier (PSB) was developed by the U.S. Navy Facilities Engineering and Service Center, tested and employed into service. It has the ability to stop all of the small boats in the US (65 ft/19.8m). Following the attack on the USS Cole in October 2000, the PSB has become the worldwide standard for maximum waterside protection against terrorist attack.
Harbor Offshore Barriers, Inc., the exclusive licensee for the U.S. Navy barrier technology, has further developed the PSB system for commercial and foreign military applications.
The PSB 5500 is appropriate where maximum protection is required for marine locations of port operations, naval installations, cruise lines, oil and gas platforms and terminals, chemical plants, desalination intakes, nuclear power plants, and dams.
PSB 5500 Barrier Specifications
Energy absorption: HIGH (greater than 5 million ft pounds).
- Nets available in steel or synthetic.
- Flotation is foam filled, high impact, UV protected, heavy walled HDPE.
- Pontoons units can be supplied in perpendicular or parallel design.
- High strength truss assembly engineered for ocean environment, all weather and secondary attack.
- Parts and connections are interchangeable.
- Connection units and latches are all proprietary, designed for continuous motion, heavy loads and are in use by the U.S. Navy.
- High visibility: Units are available in international orange or other colors and are excellent radar images.
- Elevation of the barrier extends 9 ft above the water. Designed to guard against the impact of larger vessels and the possibility of a vessel jumping the barrier or low speed "push-over".
- Lengths of the barrier units range from 33 ft to 50 ft (10m-15m).
- High reserve buoyancy provides greater stability during high energy impact.
- Low draft so as to not trap debris.
- Anchoring system is engineered to the full capacity of the system.
- Shore terminations have been designed and installed for high currents and to 30 ft (9m) tidal ranges.
- High durability with low maintenance.
- Weight: Approximately 10,000 lbs per 50ft (15m) unit.
- Fast assembly and deployment.
- Cost vs. benefit ratio makes this system the most competitive and effective in the world.
