Both steel (Spider Maxx) and synthetic nets were tested on the PSB’s. Total lengths of PSB test string was 150 feet (46 meters) and 250 feet (76 meters) long. The test goals of this configuration are:
To test the effectiveness of the barrier against multiple boat attacks.
To test the effectiveness of the barrier against a boat hitting at full power throughout the impact.
To test the barrier nets with multiple impacts against the same net
The steel nets (SpiderMaxx and Saturn Ring) were installed and supported by a catenary wire between two 24 inch (610 mm) steel pile. The top of the nets were approximately 10 feet (3 meters) above the water and 4 feet (1.22 meters) below. The separation between piles was 100 feet (30.5 meters). The test goals of this configuration is:
To test the effectiveness of the barrier against multiple boat attacks.
To test the effectiveness of the barrier against a boat hitting at full power throughout the impact.
To test the barrier nets with multiple impacts against the same net
The tests you see on the video were carried out using multiple high-speed boats. Boat #1 with a displacement of 7450 lbs (3380 kg) x 30 feet long (9.15 meters) and 600 horsepower and Boat #2 with a displacement of 8,000 lbs (3630 kg) x 30 feet long (9.15 meters) and 660 horsepower traveling at speeds up to 60 mph.
